The critically acclaimed Choir, widely recognized as one of the best mixed-choirs in Cambridge, will be celebrating the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge with this tour. After the inaugural concert in Beverly, the Choir will perform throughout New England, as well as at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City and the Washington National Cathedral.

The tour repertoire will span the range of English and European choral traditions from the Renaissance to the 20th century and include Scarlatti's Stabat Mater, motets by J.S. Bach, Parry's Songs of Farewell, and Britten's Rejoice in the Lamb and Hymn to St Cecilia.

As well as singing Evensong twice a week in the College, the Choir of Christ's College performs frequently in Cambridge and London, broadcasts regularly on BBC Radio, and undertakes an international tour every year. In recent years, the choir has toured Australia, Canada (singing at St James's Cathedral, Toronto), and the West Coast of the USA (singing at Grace Cathedral, San Francisco).

The Choir has recorded many albums. Recent compact disc releases include Of a Rose: Carol settings by Britten and Leighton (2007); Stanford Magnificat for Double Chorus, Parry Songs of Farewell (2004); Howells Requiem, Britten Rejoice in the Lamb (2002). In December 2008, Sir Philip Ledger conducted the choir in a CD recording of his music.

Christ's College is famed among the Cambridge colleges for its exceptional academic record, and has over the past 28 years had the best average exam results of any of the 29 colleges. It also provides an environment in which music extra-curricular activities flourish among its students. This year the College is also celebrating the bicentenary of its alumnus Charles Darwin, and the 500th anniversary of the death of its foundress Lady Margaret Beaufort.
